Naschmarkt Berlin

(English follows)

Naschmarkt Berlin

Last Sunday I went for the first time in Berlin at the Naschmarkt, which is a market where producers from Berlin show and sell their products…..nothing new….except that it is not just a market of fruits and vegetables but of patisserie! ….Indeed, you can find there cakes, pies, cupcakes, brownies, macarons, ice creams, biscuits, honey, jams and all kind of goodies pops into your mind! Let's say ….a little heaven! This market is held 4 times a year for one day only in the Markthalle Neun in Kreuzberg. It is organized by the Slow Food association, all exhibitors are local and their products homemade.

Almost all the exhibitors gave the opportunity to taste their products and I must say that I found the quality excellent. Among them are well worth mentioning the following:

For a good slice of cheesecake "Princess Cheesecake" (Tucholskystr. 37) is the right choice…the one I ate was so delicious…..

For Parisian style Macarons by "Art Sucré" you will find a wide assortment of both sweets and savory. I ate the one with Roquefort ganache and was great!

"Kaiser Honig" who had milk based cream and honey based cream combined with herbs and fruit. The selection of honey creams was really interesting, about 10 variations, one better than the other such as rising and rosemary, ginger and plums, currant and basil, my favorite was mint and almonds, what I bought! They do not have a real store, they sell in the markets and in their online shop.

Finally I bought at "Berliner honig" Robinia honey (Black Locust) from a tree very common in the streets of Berlin which in May makes beautiful white flowers. This honey remains liquid for the high content in fructose compared to glucose (present in most other types of honey) and I really like it.

The next Naschmarkt Berlin will be on the 2nd of September from 12-18 pm…may be worth keeping it in mind if you are planning a trip to Berlin at that time!
